Brisbane coach Kevin Walters is done with being Mr Nice Guy, with underperforming half Anthony Milford set to be dropped for Thursday's NRL clash against leaders Penrith.


Milford trained with the club's reserves on Monday and looks set to be the highest-profile casualty so far from Brisbane's miserable 1-4 start to the 2021 season.

Walters told media last week playmaker Milford had done little to convince him he deserved a new contract at Red Hill and after his team were belted 35-6 by South Sydney last Thursday, the Broncos coach has clearly decided enough's enough.

"He's drawn a line in the sand ... you can't keep doing the same thing week-in, week-out and expect change," prop Matt Lodge said.

"Kevvie's looked at the game and found some things that he's not happy with and he's holding people accountable.

"We all know Milf's a talented first-grade footballer but him and a couple others aren't doing the things Kevvie wants and I applaud him for putting his foot down and taking a stand for something.

"The team needs something obviously .... we've played the nice guy for a long time and it's not getting us anywhere."

Whether Milf is completely left out or moves to a bench utility role is unclear but it looks certain youngsters Tom Dearden and Brodie Croft will be the halves combination at Suncorp Stadium against the red-hot Panthers.

Penrith head to Brisbane with a perfect 5-0 record including wins over reigning premiers Melbourne and 2020 preliminary finalists Canberra.

Lodge says it's probably too much to expect Walters' tough love to bring about a complete form reversal for last year's wooden spooners, but the message is clear - do your job or be replaced.

"Milf cops a lot of heat and pressure. He should know it's not all on him," Lodge said.

"There's a lot of guys around him that were letting him down and unfortunately he's taking a bit of the rap for it.

"I'm sure he'll be back.

"Crofty gets in and he was dealing with the same disappointment a week ago. Everyone across the squad is vulnerable to it.

"If you're not performing Kevvie's shown he'll sit you out including myself."

MUMBAI, Sept 26 (Reuters) - Indian government bond yields were little changed on Monday, after opening higher, as value buying offset the impact of elevated U.S.



yields.

The benchmark bond yield eased, with traders citing a short squeeze in this note amid low issuance of the note so far.

The benchmark Indian 10-year government bond yield was at 7.3781% as of 0450 GMT, after ending at 7.3926% on Friday, a two-month high.

It had risen to 7.4173% earlier in the day and has jumped 16 basis points in last two sessions through Friday.

"We have seen a very sharp correction in yields in the last couple of weeks and, at these levels, there is some value which is supporting as broad negatives are factored in," a trader with a private bank said.

"The float for 2032 paper is very less, and hence some short sellers are caught on the wrong side today but any major impact may not be seen."

The Reserve Bank of India's policy decision is due on Friday, with investors expecting a half-a-percentage-point hike.

Twenty-six of 51 economists in a Reuters poll predicted the RBI to go for a 50 basis-point hike, taking the repo rate to 5.90%.

Another 20 predicted a 35 bps increase. The remaining five pencilled in increases ranging from 20 to 30 bps.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Treasury yield curve inversion continued to deepen, with yields also reacting to British government debt that jumped after the country's new finance minister, Kwasi Kwarteng, unleashed historic tax cuts and huge increases in borrowing.

The 10-year U.S.

yield jumped above 3.80% on Friday, its highest level in more than 12 years, while the two-year yield continued to trade near 15-year highs.

Last week, the Federal Reserve hiked interest rates by 75 bps for the third consecutive time and Chairman Jerome Powell said central bank of***ials are "strongly resolved" to bringing down inflation. (Reporting by Dharamraj Lalit Dhutia; Editing by Savio D'Souza)
